JAMESPORT, NY — A woman was found dead in a car submerged in the Long Island Sound off Iron Pier Beach in Jamesport Tuesday morning, police at the scene said. According to Riverhead Town Police, a call came in at 8:24 a.m. about the vehicle in the water at the Iron Pier Beach boat ramps. A police officer swam to the submerged vehicle and found the woman, 56, deceased, police said. A crime scene was established, and the Riverhead Police Department's detective division and dive team commenced an investigation of the circumstances leading up to her death, police said.
