Description
Join us at NTFB for a workshop on a unique type of composting-Bokashi composting! It's simple, cheap, and perfect for the home gardener! Come out to the North Texas Food Bank to learn all about Bokashi composting while creating your own Bokashi composting bucket! This type of composting allows for ALL food waste, from meats and veggie scraps to outdated salad dressings, to become wonderful garden additives that help plants thrive! It's a simple and inexpensive way to completely reduce food waste at home while benefitting the garden! Park in the front of the building and enter through the front garden gate (on the L side of the front entrance). The workshop will be held outside so please bring water, sunscreen, and dress appropriately. CLOSED-TOE SHOES ARE REQUIRED. PLEASE BRING: At this workshop each individual will be creating their own Bokashi composting bucket to take home. This requires fresh food waste. Clean out your fridge of meat, leftovers, old salad dressings and condiments, fruit/veggie scraps, stale bread, and anything you want to get rid of and bring it to the workshop to start your bokashi composting bucket! All food waste works for this type of composting (even greasy foods). Be sure the food waste is no more than 2 days old. Buckets are provided. Sign-ups close at 5pm on Wednesday, July 14th. The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a hunger relief organization with a proven record of accomplishment, earning a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator. We focus on providing our hungry neighbors with access to nutritious foods. Each day, the NTFB and our feeding network provide access to more than 200,000 meals for hungry children, seniors and families across the 13 counties we serve. Last year, NTFB provided access to almost 77 million meals. While we are making steady progress toward closing the hunger gap, much work remains to be done to reach NTFB's 10-year plan of providing access to 92 million nutritious meals annually by 2025.
