Description

Rising freshman girls: join Jennings, LPC to discuss what to expect and how to prepare for high school in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Join Jennings Davis, one of Vive's LPCs, to discuss what to expect and how to prepare for the first year of High School! In this collaborative style in-person class, Jennings will walk the girls through how to communicate with teachers, new friends, social pressure, the anxieties of the unknown, as well as extracurricular activities and studying well. You won't want your rising high schooler to miss out on this special afternoon. Reserve your spot now! Read below for a personal invitation from Counselor, Jennings Davis: Hi! My name is Jennings Davis and I am a counselor at Vive. I work primarily with teenage girls and young adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, and other life transitions. I grew up in Greenville and attended Wofford College (go terriers!). When I was starting high school, I remember feeling excited but nervous. Would I be able to find all of my classes, what would it be like interacting with upperclassmen, and how should I get involved? Additionally, focusing on academics could certainly be stressful. Over the years, the high school students I have worked with have shared some of these same thoughts and feelings. I've realized that it is super normal to feel excited and anxious at the same time when starting high school, but no one is talking about it. That is why I created the girls groups "Onward". I saw a need for a safe place for girls to share the way that they are feeling, learn how to navigate these emotions, and talk about what to expect in 9th grade. When we realize we're not the only ones feeling worried about getting lost in the halls, making new friends, or finding a place to sit in the cafeteria, we feel more confident moving forward. This has become one of my favorite groups to lead. In the past, girls completed this “group” and reported feeling less anxious, more confident, and more excited about starting their freshman year of high school. We always have fun and it is less awkward than most girls think it will be. We all know that change and uncertainty can be difficult, however, feeling more prepared and having a better understanding of what to expect can certainly help! I hope you'll join me as I share a little more of my story and look forward to hearing yours.
