Description

Join historian Karen Cooper for a tour of the dance halls, secret saloons, and wild behavior found in Minnehaha Park a century ago. The lost history of Minnehaha Falls includes dance halls, secret saloons, wild behavior, lawsuits and whiskey. Historian Karen Cooper will lead you on a 1 mile walk as she tours the places in Minnehaha Park where all this mayhem occurred one hundred years ago. Crooks, landowners, saloon owners, and hoteliers went to the Falls to turn a profit or to raise a little ruckus. The conflict between moral upright society and the dissipated partiers at the Falls is a fascinating and forgotten story. This in-person walking tour is limited to 25 participants, along with our guide and HHM staff members. Please register in advance. Hennepin History Museum brings the diverse history of people in Hennepin County to life. We help people understand their world through an exploration of local history with exhibits, public programs, a magazine, and a public research library.
