Stamford Man Charged With Federal Firearm Offenses: Prosecutors

STAMFORD, CT — On Monday, a federal grand jury in New Haven returned a two-count indictment charging a Stamford man with unlawful firearm possession offenses. According to a news release from Leonard C. Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Amin Hasan, 44, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson on Hartford on Monday. Hasan, who has been detained since his arrest on related state charges in December 2020, pleaded not guilty. The indictment alleges that, on Dec. 6, 2020, Hasan possessed a loaded Glock 9mm pistol. In May 2019, Hasan was convicted in state court of assault of public safety, emergency medical, public transport or health care personnel. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce. The indictment also alleges that Hasan possessed the pistol while subject to a court order. Hasan has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm as a prohibited person. If convicted, the news release said, Hasan faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years on each count. Boyle stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt, and that charges are only allegations, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
