VIENNA, VA — The Town of Vienna has hired Karen Acar Thayer as its new public information officer. She assumes the role as the town's spokesperson on Monday, June 28.
Thayer, who previously served as promotional services manager at the Fairfax County Park Authority, has over 20 years of communications experience. For over a decade, she developed, led and implemented plans for park authority programs and initiatives. For example, the park authority's annual Discovery Trail Map summer activity campaign led to increased site visits and social media engagement.
Before working for the park authority, Thayer served as communications director for Falls Church City Public Schools, leading external and internal public relations. An award-winning writer and reporter, Thayer has a National Accreditation in Public Relations.
Thayer will manager the Town of Vienna's branding initiatives, cable channel, and broadcasting operations as well as media relations. She will be developing comprehensive strategies for communications, marketing and outreach for the town, as well as plan, design, manage and implement the rown's communication, community relations, marketing, branding, and citizen outreach programs.
As previously reported by InsideNova, former communications director Lynne Coan left the position in April to join the communications team in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
