Press release from the Town of Vienna: 06/28/2021 12:14 pm   Thayer Brings 20 Years of Communications Experience to Town of Vienna  The Town of Vienna welcomes Karen Acar Thayer, APR as its Public Information Officer. Thayer joins The Town of Vienna with over 20 years of communications experience from a versatile background. Thayer will be responsible for serving as the Town's official spokesperson, managing the Town's branding initiatives, cable channel, and broadcasting operations as well as media relations. Thayer is an accomplished public relations professional with extensive knowledge of strategic planning and community engagement. Thayer comes to the Town of Vienna from her role as Promotional Services Manager of Fairfax County Park Authority, where she developed, led, and implemented plans for numerous Park programs and initiatives for more than 10 years. During her time planning and executing the annual Discovery Trail Map summer activity campaign, site visits increased 28% from 2016 to 2017 while Facebook engagement increased by 547% and Twitter engagement by 152%. Prior to her role at Fairfax County Park Authority, Thayer was Communications Director for Falls Church City Public Schools. There, she led internal and external public relations through various platforms. Thayer is an award-winning writer and reporter, credited with a National Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). Thayer will be developing and implementing comprehensive communications, marketing, and outreach strategies for the Town. In addition, she will plan, design, manage and implement the Town's communication, community relations, marketing, branding, and citizen outreach programs.
