Heat Wave Triggers Cooling Station Openings Across New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT —The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for New Haven beginning Monday through Wednesday. The New Haven Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the situation and will provide updates if necessary. In response, the city of New Haven is making four library branches available for cooling sites. Ives Main Library: 133 Elm Street | Until 5:30 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, until 8 p.m. Wednesday Fair Haven Library: 182 Grand Ave | 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday – Wednesday Mitchell Library: 37 Harris St. | Until 8 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday – Wednesday Wilson Library: 303 Washington Ave. | Until 6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, Noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. "We highly recommend following heat preparedness guidelines and safety tips to keep your family safe," New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said. "Some steps to follow are; find air conditioning or fans for cooling, avoid strenuous activities, wear light clothing, check on family members and neighbors, drink plenty of fluids, and never leave people or pets in a closed car. Call 911 for any heat related emergency. Heatwaves can produce many heat related health issues, and this can happen quickly to those with underlying medical conditions, elderly, children, and pets too!
