Annapolis Murder Suspect Arrested After Woman Killed: Police

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Police said they Thursday arrested the suspect accused of killing 39-year-old Erica Bonora of Annapolis. Officers identified the arrestee as 38-year-old Zachary Murphy of Annapolis. Detectives announced that Murphy faces charges of: Second-degree murderFirst-degree assaultSecond-degree assault Numerous traffic offenses An incident report shared that Murphy is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond. The Annapolis Police Department stated that it found Bonora dead during a June 19 welfare check. Law enforcement wrote that it spotted her body around 2:48 p.m. at an apartment in the 1000 block of Spa Road. The victim had "signs of trauma to her upper body," the press release mentioned. Authorities noted that they investigated her death as a homicide. Officials don't think this was a random act, as Bonora and Murphy knew each other. Police added that the victim's 2011 Nissan SUV was missing. Officers reported finding her car occupied hours later near Spa Road and Forest Drive. Authorities explained that they tried to stop the driver, but the motorist fled. A police chase followed, the write-up continued. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed into a tractor-trailer in Prince George's County, the report shared. Medics took the motorist to an unnamed hospital, police indicated.
