HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — A 41-year-old felon pleaded guilty Monday and was immediately sentenced to six years in prison for beating a fellow transient with a baseball bat in San Juan Capistrano last summer. Jason Michael Neuman got into a dispute with the victim before beating him with a bat about 2:30 p.m. last Aug. 16 in the 31000 block of El Camino Real, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Neuman pleaded guilty to a felony count of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and a misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon. As part of the plea deal, sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim were dismissed. In March 2015, Neuman pleaded guilty to assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and admitted a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury. An attempted murder charge, with enhancements for premeditated attempted murder and inflicting great bodily injury and personally using a deadly weapon, were dismissed as part of that plea deal. Neuman was sentenced to a year in jail but ended up being sentenced to more than five years in prison after violating probation, according to court records. City News Service
