Peninsula Town To Hold Community Meeting After Rise In Burglaries

ATHERTON, CA — The Atherton Police Department will hold a community safety meeting on Tuesday evening in response to a recent rise in burglaries in the town. According to a letter sent by Police Chief Steven McCulley to residents June 15, the town has seen 10 burglaries in the past two months, most of them occurring in sheds, outbuildings and garages that were unsecured and without security lighting. The meeting will include information on preventing burglaries, the recent deployment of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras in the town and general police operations. "Failing to lock doors and windows or to turn on security lighting and alarms will represent a failure of the overall protection system for the home," the town wrote in an alert. "We hope that together, we can enhance the quality of life in Atherton and make our great community as safe and secure as possible."
