JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of the Installer, under the direct supervision of the Installation Supervisor, is to provide labor for the installation and reconfiguration of office furniture products and accessories within clients’ facilities delivering a high degree of workmanship and customer satisfaction. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Installer is responsible for the following results: • Efficiently assembles and installs office furniture products and accessories using hand and power tools; reading plans, blueprints and elevation: architectural and furniture symbols; and understands basic electricity and systems furniture electrical component installation. • Assists with the un-cartoning, loading and unloading of trucks, staging, panel assembly, component assembly, lock installation and reporting all damages and product shortages to the Installation Supervisor. • Performs all customer site clean-up and detailing, removing all cartons and packaging. • Brings potential problems promptly to the attention of the Installation Supervisor to address. • Completes in an accurate and timely manner all paperwork, including but not limited to his or her time sheets/time entry and all other related processes and forms relating to the project. • Safely drives a straight and cubed truck following all local, state and DOT regulations. • Unloads and properly disposes of any waste materials in the receptacle or dump; inspects the company’s trucks, completes the inspection form and turns in to the appropriate person; keeps trucks clean. • Adheres to all company policies as documented in the online Employee Handbook and Safety Manual, i.e., dress code, employee conduct, performance, safety measures, etc. • Works toward being proficient in assembling and installing all Herman Miller products as well as other manufacturer’s products as required. • Contributing to a team by accomplishing related results or projects as needed or assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The preferred candidate has noteworthy experience in the following areas: • Working in a similar position in furniture installation. • Achieving and maintaining basic technical and professional proficiency related to office furniture and product knowledge across most major lines that the dealership represents; understands product specifications and descriptions; can identify basic finishes, colors and fabrics; knows installation processes and procedures for correct application and assembly for products; use of power and hand tools; and basic working knowledge of a computer. • Understands basic electricity and systems furniture electrical component installation • Physical ability to load and unload boxes or product with a weight in excess of 50 pounds as well as climb stairs; be on feet majority of the day; bend, knee, push and pull product. • Understanding the importance of doing quality work, adhering to the standards to prevent errors, and working effectively with high volume workload to reach the desired results. • Demonstrating dependability, flexibility, and adaptability by fulfilling commitments consistently and reliably and being able to change course swiftly and purposefully when the needs of the business change. Must be available to work irregular hours, and extended shifts. • Communicating effectively by interacting in a clear and compelling way that builds understanding and commitment with a wide range of people, both within and outside the company. • Demonstrating teamwork, collaboration, and customer focus by building and sustaining productive working relationships across a diverse spectrum of people. • Demonstrating initiative by recognizing opportunities or problems and communicating to the Installation Supervisor. • Ability to learn from experiences of self and others to solve problems and identify new solutions; shares knowledge generously. • Is aware of conditions that affect employee safety. Consistently behaves in a safe manner and encourages others to do the same • Must have a current driver’s license with a good driving record, as well as be able to learn to operate a company vehicle; ability to pass DOT physical and drug screen EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED: • The preferred candidate will possess a High School Diploma or equivalent, or minimum of three to six months related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Experience with product moving equipment as well as basic hand and power tools • Experience using a personal computer in a Windows based environment WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMAMDS/ MENTAL ABILITIES: The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires traveling in all types of weather up to 100% to various client locations or remote work sites, may include overnight and weekend travel. Mainly working indoors. Must be willing and prepared to work in all kinds of weather when loading or unloading product. Environment may be dusty and dirty. Hazards include working around forklifts and occasional exposure to caustic or toxic chemicals. Physical demands – Work is rated as heavy. Must be able to bend, stoop, twist, crawl on the floor, and get into tight locations in order to install the furniture. On feet majority of the day, walking, etc. Must have good upper body strength to lift continuously 50 lbs or more. Fine motor skills to handle use of small hand tools. Visual acuity is a combination of near, far, depth perception, color vision and general field of visions. Mental abilities – Specialized knowledge in the area of construction. Ability to problem-solve, read blueprints, and speak English in order to communicate to the client. Basic math skills to do measurements and some calculation of numbers.
