JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of the Mover is to transport furniture, office equipment, and related items within the scope of the project. Operates vehicles and mechanical equipment as required to facilitate loading, unloading, and transport of materials to customer location(s). ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mover is responsible for the following results: • Loads and unloads furniture and related materials onto and off trucks, ensuring that appropriate padding and ropes are used to prevent damage. • Operates forklifts, mechanical lift gates, and mechanical platforms to facilitate loading and unloading of materials, as appropriate to the area of operation. • Locates, relocates, arranges, and sets up furniture and related accessories or equipment per project plan. • Takes inventory of products and notes any damage or scratches prior to move and after move. • Uses appropriate packaging materials to ensure product is safe from damage in transport. • Operates a large moving truck in the transportation of moving materials, as necessary. • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs. • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. • Maintain a clean, safe work area, free from excess debris on floors, racks, and outside dock areas. • May perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The preferred candidate has noteworthy experience in the following areas: • Performing general physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, stooping, and handling of materials. Position will lift weigh more than 50 to 75 pounds on a continuous basis. • Handling and moving objects using hands and arms in carrying, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things. • Operating and driving box trucks, forklifts, mechanical lift gates and platforms or other related equipment. • Striving for excellence by focusing time, energy, effort, and other resources on activities that are aligned with objectives and takes personal responsibility for seeing efforts through to completion • Using resources as expected or fewer than expected, resulting in quality work that stays within established budgets • Taking ownership of successes and admits mistakes, misjudgments, or errors, immediately informing others and learns from experience • Managing own time exceptionally well with little to no supervision, frequently completing tasks early and with high quality • Maintaining availability, is reliable and dependable and regularly fulfills the commitments made to co-workers, managers and the customer as well as able to work extended shifts including weekends. • Always follows company policies and keeps his/her manager informed • Making ethical decisions and addresses unethical behavior by others • Demonstrating teamwork and fosters relationships across a diverse spectrum of people. • Communicating effectively in a way so people can understand clearly and simply, so things are understood and get done. • Striving for excellence, understanding importance of doing quality work, adhering to standards to prevent errors or injury • Ability to add value to customer expectations, needs, concerns by being customer focused. • Demonstrating initiative by recognizing opportunities or problems and takes action. • Is aware of conditions that affect employee safety. Consistently behaves in a safe manner and encourages others to do the same. • Must have a current driver’s license with a good driving record, as well as be able to operate a company vehicle and have the ability to pass DOT physical and drug screen. EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE The preferred candidate will possess a High School Diploma or equivalent, or minimum of six months related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED • Basic power and hand tools such as drill, hammer, box cutter • Fork lifts, power hoists, pallet jacks WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/MENTAL ABILITIES: The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be willing and prepared to work in all kinds of weather when loading or unloading product. Environment may be dusty and dirty. Must be able to travel to various customer work sites and to company’s remote sites. Physical demands – Work is rated as heavy, will lift continuously 50 to 75 pounds. Must have use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body for climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, stooping, and handling of materials. On feet majority of the day, walking, etc. The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). The ability to see details at a distance. Mental Abilities - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath. The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
