FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort Police Department is warning residents about scams related to vehicle registration in which potential victims are asked to pay fees that are not authorized by the Illinois Secretary of State's Office. According to police, one scam involves individuals receiving unsolicited text messages claiming to be from the Secretary of State's Office, which indicate there are "problems with your information." The text provides a link "uipendingcases.org." Police advise not to click on the link or to provide any personal information. Another scam making the rounds is a text message alleging to be from Illinois Department of Transportation asking potential victims to sign up for notifications regarding license plate renewal, police warned. The text will provide a link to a Google form that asks for personal information, such as a driver's license and social security number. Again, police warn not to click on the link or provide any personal information. Police advise that if you receive suspicious messages to call the listed number associated with the business or organization.
