Korean Cultural Center of Chicago Celebrates 11 Years In Wheeling

WHEELING, IL — For more than a decade, the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago has been a cultural hub for the Korean-American community in Chicagoland. Last year, the Wheeling nonprofit received a $600,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. U.S. Rep Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) traveled to 9930 Capitol Drive to celebrate the center's 11th anniversary. "Against the backdrop of rising prejudice against Asian-Americans in this country, it is more important than ever to honor and celebrate Korean and Asian-American heritage," Schneider said in a news release. "The tremendous success of the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago over the last eleven years exemplifies the values of community, education and civic engagement that make our country strong. I look forward to continuing our longstanding partnership to support the Tenth District's thriving Korean-American community. The grant, announced in December 2020, will fund the Bisco Hall renovation at the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago, allowing Korean artists to have the support and space they need to bring heritage to life in the United States. The mission of the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCOC) is to promote and organize Korean cultural, arts, educational, and social activities. KCCOC aims to establish a venue where all Korean Americans and other groups can participate in programs and events that celebrate Korean culture and heritage.
