Description
I'm looking for a someone to join me in putting together a musical duo (or trio) focused on tight harmonies and creative folk-rock. The goal is to meet weekly for fun and to polish up some pieces for the occasional open mic. I'm not interested in gigs at all --- just the fun and challenge of doing more than jamming.
Me: Mid-life female vocalist (wide range: soprano to tenor) and guitarist. I'm not a pro but I've been on stage many times. I've been doing this all my life as an amateur and can finger-pick well, do back-up guitar on just about anything, and also play the tenor recorder (sounds like a flute). I can harmonize very well although I'm not one of those folks who can pick out a harmony right off the bat :-)
You: Can pick up and sing harmonies well (male or female), play lead and back-up guitar, and possibly bring another instrument to the table (percussion, fiddle, bass?). Are easy-going and enjoy figuring out things out in a creative way.
The music:
My tastes are eclectic but run towards alternative and early folk-rock: Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Steeleye Span, Linda Ronstadt, David Clark, Uncle Bonsai, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Indigo Girls, Nickel Creek......even classical. I also love irreverent and/or politically motivated music. The more varied the repertoire, the better. I'm not at all interested in the old standard folk or folk/rock stuff unless we can creatively change it up.
My polished repertoire is very thin at this point, but that's why I'm doing this! I do have some pieces that are almost ready for prime time and would be with the right partner.
If you're in SE Portland and this sounds like an interesting project, drop me a line. Tell me about yourself and your background and musical interests. Let's trade some favorite songs and see if we might be a good fit!
