Capitol Felony Bad Karens 3 Strikes you OUT

Description

Sort by haters, republican bigots, Karen Whiniers and Trash People who Hate Everybody. 23 June, 2021 "three meals a day, around-the-clock security, bathrooms and showers" The city is missing the opportunity to encourage those who live in the tent villages to take on some responsibilities, such as taking shifts for security, cooking and maintaining the sanitary facilities. A couple of hours per day per person would do it, and not only lower the cost dramatically, but make the arrangment more resilient. Asking taxpayers to underwrite $57k/year/tent is lunacy. JONATHAN47 23 June, 2021 you are not paying for it The tent program is entirely paid for through Proposition C, a 2018 business tax measure that collects money for homeless services. The cost only accounts for a fraction of the more-than $1 billion that the city expects to spend on homelessness over the next two years, mostly due to Prop. C. 23 June, 2021 The costs of the tent shelter program simply don’t make sense to me. It needs to be audited. It doesn’t seem reasonable that it would cost upwards of $5,000 a month per tent to house people, even factoring in security, daily meals, restroom/showering facilities, trash pick up and other services. If medical, psychiatric and social services are included as part of the budget (and they may be; I don’t know), I suppose that they could be large line items. Still, it would be helpful to see a breakdown of costs per tent/person to see if the spending makes sense — or if it doesn’t, then to allocate the money more effectively/efficiently. PS. Apologies for the large blocks of text without proper paragraphs but the comment system hasn’t been allowing me to use paragraphs for several days. Yep, I know, this comment is a giant wall of text. I don’t like it either. Pippi Longstocking 24 June, 2021 The supes don't like audits. Audits demand fiscal responsibility and results, neither of which are in play here. Pippi Longstocking 24 June, 2021 Well said, and worth the informative long post. This is the type of thing that erodes the public's "faith" that our local government can manage "big idea" projects to successful outcomes. 24 June, 2021 until the city audits all existing homeless programs, and assesses their success or failure againt the homelsss policy, nothing will change. The homeless policy? It seems to be missing in action. I ask the writer and readers: can you find and point me to our policy on homeless. If that policy does not include some responsible actions on the part of the homelss then again nothing will change. Money will be spent to no avail. We need new leaders all the way up and down the governmental food chain. hb211 2 days ago The goal of the Homeless Industrial Complex is to never solve the problem, says mario. Lots of jobs involved with the HIC and everyone wants in on it. It's a job with no metrics for success but you can be sure they want more $ every year, mario said. hb211 1 day ago They are audited. As to the homeless policy, that is simple. Milk the issue to manipulate the voters as much as possible. 24 June, 2021 No one can possibly think this price tag is reasonable. You could rent 260 studio apartments at a fraction of the cost. Seriously, where is the money going? amesalot 24 June, 2021 You could easily buy 260 single-family houses every year for $15 million. Elsewhere in the country. But somehow these people, by virtue of having arrived in SF, have a vested and city-protected right to live in the city. amesalot 24 June, 2021 It's going out the door, one full wheelbarrow at a time. 24 June, 2021 I work in that industry. $60k per year for a tent location is absurd. There is no level of case management that supports that dollar amount. Edit: I work with homeless services that spend less than that on housing vouchers plus case management. Real apartments with utilities and such. 24 June, 2021 Another potential win for the Homeless Industrial Complex. The residents of SF need to educate themselves on the forces at play here. There are so many “non-profits” involved that actually pay their leadership huge salaries that depend on the money they get from the city, and they lobby hard to keep the goose laying the golden egg. Until we cut them off, we will continue to waste tens of millions of tax dollars every year. It’s madness. 24 June, 2021 This is the thing that defines Progressives: they don't really understand the meaning of investment. What if... instead of spending $15 million on showers, security and meals for these dozens of folks, with nothing to show for it after a year...instead this money was actually invested in a productive business that could... (hold it)...EMPLOY these people? When money (capital) is invested in a productive enterprise, it creates jobs. Jobs employ people, allow them to work, and earn a living. Rather than having their living handed to them in a Styrofoam clamshell by a social worker, who is just a waiter with a bachelor's degree. roger_wilco 24 June, 2021 You assume that all of these people want to work, or are able to work. roger_wilco 2 days ago A lot of those homeless people are in that position because our SSI/SSDI system is currently set up to make it as difficult as possible for disabled people to get SSI/SSDI, so they end up on the street fending for themselves. Creating more jobs won't help them, as they can't work reliably enough to hold jobs. 24 June, 2021 When a city is so well off as is San Francisco, $60k per tent is a pittance. Money is no object. Forgetting, of course, the fact that government does not create money or wealth. It only takes and redistributes. In this world there are makers and then there are takers. SF is just filled with takers and some of those takers are government employees who serve no apparent useful purpose. 24 June, 2021 This idea that tents should be allowed is the root of the problem. They have no more right to set up a tent than I have a right to park my car there when there aren't any spots. These people need to move somewhere they can afford to live and not live in squalor. San Francisco is not where everyone should live. If you can't support yourself, go to somewhere cheaper to live. I love living in San Francisco but it is not that great a place that homelessness would be the best option if I lost my job. Unfortunately we have far too many groups who get paid by city for homeless people and therefore they have no interest in solving the problem. It is just wrong. 24 June, 2021 Audit all non profits doing business with the city starting with the homeless non profits and park and Rec. When will the 4th st subway and van ness bus line be completed? How about finishing those befire any new city projects are approved ? MICHAEL414 1 day ago Non profits are audited yearly. And by both the City, and IRS. Wreck The Parks is not really. That has replaced DPW as the mayor’s piggy bank. And the subway was a gift from Ed Lee, and both projects are boondoggles. The Van Ness project is absurd. It will safe a couple of minutes while making access more difficult for the elderly and disabled, and it will never recoup the lost time it has caused.
