Description

Kitchen Sink to the core, Stray Cat Film Center is proud to screen this masterpiece of early queer cinema on the big screen! Part of Britain’s new wave of hyper-realistic “Kitchen Sink” films, THE LEATHER BOYS is a riveting mix of teen angst, biker thrills, and raging emotion. The movie follows young newlyweds Reggie (Colin Campbell) and Dot (Rita Tushingham, A TASTE OF HONEY) as they embark on a new life together. But there’s trouble in paradise when Reggie develops feelings for Pete (Dudley Sutton), a member of a rival biker gang. Directed by Sidney J. Furie (THE ENTITY) and written by Gillian Freeman from her novel, THE LEATHER BOYS explodes with expressionistic photography, gripping themes, and a bold exploration of identity. Long unavailable on home video, AGFA + Shout! Factory are elated to present a sparkling new restoration of this important chapter of early queer cinema. “If there’s a better film to pair with MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, I’ve certainly never seen it.” — Christian Ryan, LETTERBOXD Restoration courtesy of the American Genre Film Archive and Shout! Factory. Stray Cat Film Center is an artist-run, non-profit micro-cinema. Organized by volunteer programmers, We screen everything from to documentaries to video art to cult films and is open to the entire range of moving image expressions – independent, activist, underground and bizarre. We are a space that supports all of KC’s cinematic communities and celebrates diversity of expression, fun & radical art.
