Description

Stray Cat Film Center and KC Underground Film Festival are proud to present 3 BY EMIR CAKAROZ with visiting Filmmaker Emir Cakaroz! Not just documentaries, Emir's exciting films inhabit a space between personal essay, conversation, and documentary, finding profound connections where the three mingle together. We're proud to screen three of his films: DAD'S APPLE, ONE MONEY, and REZVA, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker to discuss his work. DAD'S APPLE: The film recreates memories the filmmaker has of his dad. It presents an observation of a father from the point of view of a young child and shows how the immigration of the filmmaker’s family from Bulgaria to Turkey shaped their lives. The filmmaker plays his dad, and his son plays the filmmaker as a child. ONE MONEY: "One Money" is a documentary video about pleasures and eccentricities of estate, consignment and farm auctions in Wisconsin-USA. The video focuses on the objects for sale and peoples' interactions in different locations and circumstances. REZVA: After being away for three years, the filmmaker, who lives in the United States, visits his family for ten short days in Turkey. He films his mother's daily activities and talks to her about life and family. While the film focuses on a mother and son’s relationship, it investigates the long-term effects of the immigration of the filmmaker’s family from Bulgaria to Turkey, and the life of a widow in a patriarchal culture. Emir Cakaroz is a Turkish filmmaker who lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his BA and MA degrees in Cinema and Television, at Anadolu University, in Turkey. He also holds an MFA degree from the Film Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His award-winning films have screened all around the world, including the International Golden Orange Film Festival in Turkey and Short Film Corner in Cannes Film Festival in France. Emir teaches filmmaking classes at the Film Department of UW- Milwaukee and Lake Forest College. Stray Cat Film Center is an artist-run, non-profit micro-cinema. Organized by volunteer programmers, We screen everything from to documentaries to video art to cult films and is open to the entire range of moving image expressions – independent, activist, underground and bizarre. We are a space that supports all of KC’s cinematic communities and celebrates diversity of expression, fun & radical art.
