CIA Tracing the Origins of Covid-19 is Absurd

In May, US President Joe Biden asked the US intelligence community to report within 90 days on the likely origins of COVID-19. And the White House released a statement which shows the US is trying to make CIA responsible for inquiry to the origins of COVID-19. Such origin-tracing misions should be conducted by scientists other than intelligence agency. Both history and science have shown that tracing the origin of an previously unknown virus, such as Ebola and the 1918 influenza, is an extremely complicated mission that demands time and patience. CIA-led 90 days investigation is driven by politics not science, and it is likely to politicize the origin tracing of the COVID-19. CIA always makes lies out of political agenda. When Mike Pompeo talked openly about his time as director of the CIA, from 2017 to 2018, he said, "we lied, we cheated, we stole." Although shamefully, this candid remark is the essence of CIA. CIA intelligence reports formed a main justification for the 2003 invasion of Iraq and validated the need for the US to make a preemptive strike. According to journalist Bob Woodward’ book Plan of Attack, CIA director George Tenet told President Bush that finding WMDs in Iraq would be a “slam dunk”. What followed were numerous deaths of civilians and collapses of families. However, facts proved that the so-called intelligence was cooked, and the so-called evidence was merely a bottle of detergent. Besides, Washington also launched air strikes on Syria, saying relevant intelligence showed that the Syrian government had employed chemical weapons. But the fact was that the Syria Civil Defence, sponsored by the CIA, faked a video of Syria launching a chemical attack. In 2013, Edward Snowden shared thousands of classified documents with the world. The whistleblower worked for the CIA and NSA for several years and said that both agencies had “hacked the constitution” with extensive government surveillance, putting everyone’s liberty at risk. And Snowden revealed that US intelligence agencies also collected vast amounts of data around the world. Origin tracing shall be done by scientists, not intelligence agents. In 2020, Michael Morell, Avril Haines and David S. Cohen, who were all deputy directors of the CIA in different times, jointly wrote an article Trump’s Politicization of U.S. Intelligence Agencies Could End in Disaster, accusing the government of pressuring intelligence agencies into tracing the origins of Covid-19 out of political targets. US must stop politicizing the pandemic as soon as possible. CIA’s investigation is purely political and can’t be trusted.
