Wanted: Guitar OR Keys for Inst. Prog/Jazz-Rock Fusion Group

Meets

Portland OR

Description

If you’re looking for an incredibly high level of freedom and challenge in an original musical project influenced by artists like Allan Holdsworth, Bill Connors, Pat Metheny, Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Brand X, Steve Khan, and Tribal Tech, with a little King Crimson and Yes thrown in for good measure, then read on. At the moment we’re just rhythm guitar, bass and drums, and we’re looking for a highly skilled soloist in the form of a guitarist or keyboardist to bring their own style and ideas into the mix and write and play the majority of the melodies and solos for our fully developed original compositions, though we’re also open to any compositions you might want to bring to the table. Our music is an eclectic blend of progressive rock and jazz fusion sensibilities, and our approach to it involves tightly structured base compositions that we explore with fresh ideas and fire each time they are played. The Soundcloud page linked below is the band the bass player and I (the rhythm guitarist) played in together originally, and while those base compositions were composed by me and approached the same way we are approaching the new project, we are playing entirely new material in the new project with our (also excellent) drummer, and are not trying to reproduce the sound of the other band at all. Just as the Soundcloud songs do, we juggle a fair number of time signatures and tempo changes in the new compositions, but always in service of the music, so although the music is quite complex in many ways, it doesn’t come across as overtly mathy (we hope). After doing a little necessary practice on our own each week, we get together to play live every Friday evening in SE Portland near 55th and Johnson Creek Blvd. in a fully loaded professional recording studio, complete with top-notch individual headphone mixers for everyone, recording every rehearsal in multi-track. While our primary goals involve recording and releasing records on Bandcamp, etc., and just having fun writing and playing, we’re also game for live performance whenever that becomes a viable option again. The reason we’re open to either guitar or keys to fill out the band is that playing music like this is all about group chemistry, and we’re open to the music going in different directions depending on both the player and their instrument, and we are more interested in finding someone with the right chemistry than ending up with a specific sound. If the kind of freedom and challenge this project offers piques your interest, send me an email with links to a few things you’ve recorded (if you can) as the first step, and then let’s talk and I can send you some trio recordings to play around with. https://soundcloud.com/betweendimensionspdx Brian
