Description

Ride to sites in Alexandria associated with U.S. Presidents Which pizzeria in Alexandria offers a Barack My World pizza, named after the pizza that President Obama ordered during a visit? Which school was the site of a campaign rally for future president John F. Kennedy? When Gerald Ford learned that Nixon was resigning and that he was about to be sworn in as president, which dry cleaner in Alexandria did he ask to clean his suit? Come find out on this free bicycle ride organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. The route is about 14 miles, with a mix of neighborhood streets, bike lanes, and trails, including some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36412299. If you participated in our 2019 presidential history ride, most of the stops on this ride are new. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. If you'd like to join for just part of the ride, that's fine too. Bring a functioning bike, a helmet, and water. If you're not fully vaccinated, please bring a face covering as well. You'll be asked to sign a waiver before the ride. We'll meet at 2301 Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray, by the mural outside of The Dog Store. If you would like to do a presidential history walk instead (or in addition!), BPAC is hosting a presidential history walk in Old Town on Sunday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexandria-presidential-history-walk-registration-161185579407. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people who are not fully vaccinated to give others at least 10 feet of space while riding and to wear masks during the stops (and also while riding if they can breathe comfortably while doing so) -- breaking into small groups based on expected pace -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the ride if needed The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization that promotes walking and biking, and infrastructure and policy changes that create a safe, accessible, and livable city for all. BPAC members are local volunteers who engage hundreds of Alexandria residents and seek solutions to safe walking and biking issues on their behalf.
