Description
Walk to sites in Alexandria associated with U.S. Presidents Which church in Alexandria has been visited by eleven U.S. presidents? Which president took the ferry to Alexandria and then walked back to the White House? Which president was in town for Washington's birthday celebration when a grandstand collapsed on him? Come find out on this free walk organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. The route is about 2 miles, and will cover parts of Old Town: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36412160. All are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. We'll meet across from Market Square, in the courtyard on Royal St. between the Alexandria Voter Registration office and Weichert, Realtors. If you would like to do a presidential history ride instead (or in addition!), BPAC is hosting a presidential history ride starting from Del Ray on Saturday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexandria-presidential-history-ride-registration-161285512309. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- asking everyone to self-screen and not participate if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people who are not fully vaccinated to give others at least 6 feet of space while walking and to wear masks during the stops (and also while walking if they can breathe comfortably while doing so) -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the walk if needed The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization that promotes walking and biking, and infrastructure and policy changes that create a safe, accessible, and livable city for all. BPAC members are local volunteers who engage hundreds of Alexandria residents and seek solutions to safe walking and biking issues on their behalf.
