Description

Join us in tackling the Potomac Rivers trash pollution problem! Every month from April until October we will be hosting River Cleanups. As a part of Potomac Riverkeeper Network's Trash-Free Potomac Campaign and Alice Ferguson Foundations Trash-Free Initiative, we are hosting River Cleanups in Alexandria and National Harbor from April until October! Join us to help us tackle the Potomac River's trash pollution! Our Alexandria registration begins at 8:30 am at the foot of Madison St. in Oronoco Bay Park. We need volunteers of all ages to help remove single-use plastics and trash washed along the bank of the river. Please be prepared and dress accordingly. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet and muddy. Please bring water (in your reusable water bottle, of course) and snacks. Parking is available at the end of Madison Street, and additional parking is available around the park. We will provide gloves, bags, and trash pickers. At registration, we will ask you to complete a safety waiver to participate in the event. Any minors participating must have a parent or legal guardian attend with them and sign their waiver. ***Update regarding Covid-19 and social distancing*** Due to the ongoing pandemic, we will be following safe social distancing practices at our river cleanup events. We are extending the registration time for our cleanups to be one hour long, starting 30 minutes before the scheduled event start time to prevent overcrowding at the registration table. Masks must be worn at the registration table. We will be taking steps to minimize contact throughout the event. Please contact us if you have questions or concerns. We're a network of 3 Riverkeepers fighting for the public's right to a drinkable, swimmable, and fisherable river.
