Oswego Police To Limit Traffic, Parking For 4th of July Fireworks

OSWEGO, IL — Fourth of July celebrations are right around the corner and in preparation, Oswego police officers announced parking limitations and travel routes for before and after the firework show, scheduled for 9:30 p.m. July 4. The annual firework show will take place at Prairie Point Park, 4120 Plainfield Road, and will last until about 10 p.m. For the show, Oswego police encouraged viewers to use the lots at Traughber Junior High, 570 Colchester Drive; Eastview Elementary, 4209 IL-71; Prairie Point Elementary, 3650 Grove Road; and Oswego High School, 4250 Route 71. RELATED: 4th Of July Fireworks 2021 Near Oswego Handicapped parking will be available off Plank Drive in front of the school district's bus stop, and an additional eight spots can be found off Grove Road at Prairie Point Park. "No parking" signs will be strictly enforced, police said. Regulatory signs will be on both sides of Stonehill Road, Theodore Drive and Templeton Drive, while temporary signs include the following locations: State Route 71, between U.S. Route 34 and Forest AvenueFranklin Street, on the fire hydrant side onlyWilmette StreetCalumet StreetPlainfield Road, between Rt. 71 and Linden DriveGrove Road, between Plainfield Road and Arboretum WayBell CourtWoolley Road, between Plainfield Road and Colchester Officers will be at busy intersections to assist with traffic, the department said. To alleviate traffic congestion, some intersections and school parking lots will be affected. Changes will include: Motorists will not be allowed to travel on West Washington Street towards downtown Oswego from Route 71. All traffic traveling on East Washington will only be allowed to travel northbound or southbound on Route 71, no through traffic will be allowed.Both parking lots of the Oswego High School and Eastview Elementary will only be allowed to travel northbound on Route 71.Motorists traveling east on Franklin Street will only be allowed to turn southbound onto Route 71.Motorists exiting Stonehill Road onto Wolf Road will be required to turn eastbound onto Wolf's Crossing only.Motorists exiting Stonehill Road onto Woolley Road will be required to turn eastbound onto Woolley Road.Motorists exiting onto Woolley Road from the Traughber Junior High School lot will only be allowed to travel northbound on Colchester Drive or eastbound on Woolley Road.
