Position Overview Remote Alaska equipment operators sought to work in seasonal mine camp. Finish grader experience preferred. Responsible for the daily pre-inspection and operation of off-road mining and construction equipment such as wheel loaders, bulldozers, haul trucks, excavators, powered shovels, cranes, crawler drills, aerial work platforms, and forklifts. Equipment operators are also responsible for plant housekeeping assignments and assisting plant maintenance staff with plant repairs. Must be able to effectively inspect, ascend, start, safely operate, and control assigned off-road mining equipment in an extra hazardous mining environment. Perform duties that are not listed on this job description but are assigned by Supervisor. Work and live in a remote Alaska work camp which is an alcohol and drug free workplace. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Operate various makes and models of large and small mining/ construction equipment at remote mine site in adverse conditions. • Complete walk around, safety checks to MSHA standard and ensure the equipment is running properly • Report any damage or repairs to the maintenance personnel or supervisors • Operate equipment to standards, procedures and practices • Communicate updates to supervisor to ensure goals will be met • Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately • Daily record keeping of all activities. Technical and Education Requirements • Must be specifically trained for each piece of equipment • Must have GED/High School Diploma preferred. • Must have valid, current and clean drivers' license. • Must be able to safely operate vehicles and equipment • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude in general and adequate knowledge of heavy equipment. • Must effectively communicate verbally and in writing. • Must have good analytical and troubleshooting skills. • Must have an excellent safety record and be a very safe employee. • Must have the ability to supervise own work and be self-motivated. • Must possess steady work history. Must possess excellent attendance, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, initiative, commitment to task and safety record. • Must be able to pass work reference checking, background checking, motor vehicle checking and drug testing. • Must be able to work outside 85% of the time and must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently and lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally. • Ability to mount and dismount mobile equipment via ladders, stairs, and grab irons. • Ability to operate heavy mining equipment on rough terrain while seated for prolonged periods of time • Ability to manipulate equipment controls including steering wheels, joysticks, levers, and switches • Ability to work safely in and around other mobile equipment often in a fast paced environment. Oriented X3 to hear with ability to discriminate between sound and maintain awareness of surroundings • Ability to work outside, tolerate ambient seasonal temperature extremes, Ability to recognize and eliminate workplace hazards within reasonable means to avoid personal injury or property damage MSHA Training Certification is required and if not current company will provide MSHA training.
