Rock drummer seeking something new

Description
I don't want to play with a "follower" band that depends on numbers for shows. If the music is good, the rest will follow. I also don't have to play drums to collaborate with you musically. I left SLC at the age of 19 to pursue a career in audio at The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Arizona. I've worked in a professional recording studio in Chicago for a number of years, and have played drums in several bands. I'm 35 years old now, and recently moved back to SLC after 15 years. 1 year Tempe AZ, 9 years Chicago IL, 5 years in Portland OR. Here is my current thinking on music and local shows. I want to join something with others that have the same mindset with artistic values. I don't want a band about promotion, t-shirts, image.. That all comes dead last for me. It's coming up with something that sounds "good" and recognizing listeners resonating with your sound before doing anything merchandise wise or even performing. To me, it's about execution, feeling and the songs. I want to play with a band to where people want to hear and see your music. Not some person showing up to flaunt their social feathers with their friends because you decided to book a show at a venue. I'm a drummer yes, but also a producer/engineer that loves working with VSTs and nerding out with sounds. I understand why a song gives you chills, and why a listener "likes" a particular song. In my eyes these guys are the pioneers in SLC underground music scene: Phil Sherburne, Will Sartain, SLUG, Andy Patterson, Form of Rocket, Eagle Twin, Tolchock Trio, Eagle Twin Maybe I missed a few, but I remember when I was in High School gravitating to these bands and their creativity is what inspired me the most. SLC needs some new great bands. Drumming Mantravel Well - Guitar and Drum Duo Over 10 years ago. We played many shows in Chicago. Loft parties, abandoned churches turned into venues, mexican restaurants, and block parties. I did all the recording and mixing on the studio tracks. All recordings are onetake for feels. https://soundcloud.com/mantravel-well Random Rehearsal Recorded When I lived in Portland I found someone who I collaborated with well through Craigslist. This was a recording from first meet and just listening to one another. Jamming out. https://rddt.s3.amazonaws.com/pdxpp1.mp3 M@D Hon3y Left these guys after our first show. Toxic from the beginning. Never liked the band name as there is 3-4 other M@d Honey band names. Their importance was on image, t-shirt sales, and leader didn't play the guitar well. The other two were in a relationship. It was always their word against mine. I just wanted to be paid after playing a gig instead of t-shirt/recording bank I will never see. Will never do this again. https://youtu.be/PV-Cm5XxGgo Digital Compositions Hello Samples recorded with Korg ESX-1 https://s3.amazonaws.com/drummer_chicago/mp3/digital/hello.mp3 Super Volcano Composed this one messing around with PhilHarmonik string VSTs. Ideas taken from Hello above. https://s3.amazonaws.com/drummer_chicago/mp3/digital/super_volcano.mp3 Influences Brian Eno - The Big Ship Song doesn't need to be a full band. I compose using synths and Logic with samplers as well. Orchestration of voices and mood is what matters but the emotional feels of such a short song. Feel good vibes. https://youtu.be/HQmT8At9G4Y Oso Oso is the eptiome for music and engaging live performance. You will never see this much heart and soul on a big stage these days. Phil Taylor performs on unicycle. YouTube at a local venue: https://youtu.be/_XrrhDWMJu4 YouTube: Another great gem - unicycle intro: https://youtu.be/k81GuPGL6As Doom Eternal Soundtrack - Phobos Space by Mick Gordon The perfect heist music. The intro is great. Let me as a listener feel the bad assery build through synths. Brilliant. The synth chomping sounds are not lying when it goes into all-turbines-are-working! https://youtu.be/Pqby_CLx6mg Mason Jennings - I'm the Ocean (Cover) Acoustic Birthday show. Love his Neil Young cover. I saw Mason perform back in 2004 at the Austin City Limits festival. One of those musicians that you stick with. https://youtu.be/q4jqkvU42WQ?t=970 Battles - Atlas Sounds like crazy music from the future. Hard to believe it was 14 years ago https://youtu.be/IpGp-22t0lU Emile Haynie - Falling Apart This video reminds me of the recording studio days. Talents on mics producing hit songs https://youtu.be/_MR5KpBYhA0
