Description

Let's hang out and stitch! Don't know how? I'll teach you. Hey Friends, Let's stitch together! I'll be in Chicago for a minute and I want to stitch with you! Join me on August 8th from 1-3pm at Horner Henry Park (Montrose and Western). This is an outdoor event. If it rains, I'll find an indoor spot for us. Bring your stitching materials and your friends. We will talk craftivism, art, community building, work on our projects, and get to know each other. If you have never stitched before you should definitely come and I'll teach you how! Below is a little shopping list so you know what materials to bring with you (shouldn't be more than $10 worth). xo Shannon www.Patreon.com/BadassCrossStitch Shopping List: This is a BYOSupplies sort of party so you should bring whatever you usually use to create/craft. For folks who are new to fiber art, here is what I suggest you bring: A sketchbook, pencil, and sharpieA 6 inch embroidery hoopA 13 inch by 13 inch piece of white or light colored fabric (cotton, calico cotton, tight weave linen are all good choices)A WATER soluble marking pen (not air soluble...it will disappear too fast)Size 22 tapestry needlesA selection of embroidery flossScissorsOn the “Tutorials” section of the website you can find images and links to the products which might help when you hit the craft store. Also on the tutorials page, are 3 short videos that I made to help new stitchers learn to stitch. You might want to watch them before we get together. It will shorten your learning curve. If you are a pro-stitcher, it would be dreamy if you centered yourself around folks who might be less skilled to offer a hand, suggestion, and some guidance.  Shannon Downey is an artist, activist, craftivist, community builder, and general instigator. She blends her politics, activism, and art into projects that are designed to inspire others to take action, think, discuss, engage with democracy and their community, and find some digital/analog balance. She makes art to inspire others to make art. Her passion is teaching people how to stab out their frustrations + take action to build a just world. Life motto: Make Art. Smash Systems.
