Join us for a walk through the Dempster St./Chicago Ave. area to see how accessory dwelling units (ADUs) fit into a thriving neighborhood!
We will see the exterior of multiple accessory dwelling units (ADUs), giving you a sense of what it's like to live in these beautifully designed homes! Experts from the Evanston Development Cooperative (EDC) will guide the tour and discuss why homeowners build ADUs across Evanston. ADUs can be accessible housing solutions for aging relatives, homeowners seeking to downsize, renters, and community members simply looking for a smaller living space.
Where should I meet the tour group?
The free tour will begin and end at the Dempster CTA Purple Line Stop. There will be two 90-minute tours, from 1pm to 2:30pm and 3pm to 4:30pm.
Public street parking is available nearby on Sherman Ave, Elmwood Ave, and other adjacent streets.
Will I be able to learn if I can build an accessory dwelling unit (ADU ) on my property?
Yes! During the tour, EDC team members will discuss Evanston's current ADU zoning and building code regulations, and we are happy to answer questions about the necessary steps to design and build an ADU on your property.
What is the Evanston Development Cooperative?
The Evanston Development Cooperative (EDC) designs and builds energy-efficient ADUs for Evanston homeowners and residents. As a community-owned worker cooperative, EDC pursues initiatives focused on housing affordability, racial equity, and climate resiliency.
