N’Namdi Gallery presents, Sips of Summer, an evening of jazz and wine. The concert performance will feature recording artist Leslie DeShazor. Leslie has performed with the Toledo Symphony, The Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, Michigan Sinfonietta, CutTime Simfonica, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Flint Symphony, The River Raisin Ragtime Revue, and Ann Arbor Symphony, as well as jazz ensembles Leigh Daines Ensemble the Detroit-based, Musique Noire and Straight Ahead. In addition, Leslie has performed and recorded with international; Grammy award-winning R&B stars Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Kem, Aretha Franklin, Grammy award-winning gospel artists Fred Hammond, Michael W. Smith, and Donnie McClurkin. She has also enjoyed performing with jazz greats such as Roy Hargrove, Steve Wilson, Sheila Jordan, Diane Schuur, Regina Carter, Xavier Davis, and Marcus Belgrave. Leslie recently expanded her versatility, musically playing viola and violin as a part of award-winning hit musicals Hamilton and Hello Dolly. Enhance your evening of jazz with Aslina wines from South African winemaker Ntsiki Biyela. Biyela is the first African winemaker in South Africa who has been named among the Most Innovative Women in Food & Drink by a joint effort of Food & Wine Magazine with Fortune Magazine. Your wine experience with Advanced Sommelier Gerry Baker begins at 6:00 p.m. It will include the concert and appetizers carefully paired to the wines during this causal evening of wonderful fellowship and fun. The cost is $150 per couple and $80 for individual tickets. The concert-only tickets are available for $40 and begin at 7:30 p.m. Social distancing and mask-wearing (except when eating and drinking) will be observed, and sanitizer will be available. The N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art presents diverse, multi-disciplinary and engaging art experiences. It serves to promote and perpetuate the cultural legacy of African-American and African diasporic art, along with art from diverse cultures. Since its conception in 2010, the N’Namdi Center has contributed to the Detroit arts scene by presenting art exhibitions by nationally and internationally renowned artists as well as local and emerging talent.
