New Haven, CT — After running from cops and then crashing, with one making a run for it on foot, two New Haven men are now charged with gun possession and several other charges, according to police. Wednesday night around 8:30, police got a Shotspotter alert about gunfire on Henry Street, between Ashmun Street and Dixwell Avenue, according to New Haven police spokesperson officer Scott Shumway. He said that officers tried to stop a "fleeing" Honda CRV but the driver "ignored the officers signal, and engaged the officers in pursuit." Then, the car crashed at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Forbes Avenue, Shumway said, with one person trying to get away on foot, unsuccessfully: "Both occupants were apprehended by officers." Inside of the CRV, Shumway said, which turned out to be a stolen car, police found a semi-automatic handgun. Arrested were Patrick Batchelor, 37, and Carlos Collazos, 26, both of New Haven. Batchelor was charged with first-degree larceny, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a pistol, having a weapon in a motor vehicle, engaging in a police pursuit, reckless driving and a host of traffic violations. Collazos was charged with first-degree larceny, criminal possession of a pistol, and having a weapon in a motor vehicle. Both Batchelor and Collazos were held on $500,000 bond and were transported to an arraignment hearing in Superior Court at 121 Elm Street.
