Description
MILFORD, CT —During the July 4th weekend, Milford's Robert Treat Farms will be having a flower sale at The Garden Center.
Located at 1338 New Haven Avenue, Robert Treat Farms will offer customers the chance to buy two greenhouse items and get the third for free.
One of the available items will be the Buddleia, or butterfly bush, a flowering shrub that produces colorful flowers in late summer and fall. A representative at Robert Treat Farms said the butterfly bush they have in stock generally sells for $50 and up.
According to Robert Treat Farms' website, butterfly bush has distinctive blossoms that are displayed in long panicles at the end of the branches. The flowers are rich in nectar, making them highly attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds and other beneficial pollinators.
The shrubs are easy to grow in full sun and drained soil, drought tolerant - once they are established - and deer and rabbit resistant. Robert Treat farms also reminds customers that butterfly bush can be one of the last plants to leaf out in the spring.
The following varieties of Buddleia, butterfly bush, currently are on sale at Robert Treat Farms:
Grant Cascade- 6-feet tall and 7-feet wide with very large lavender flower panicles.Funky Fuchsia: 6 feet to 8-feet tall and wide with reddish pink blooms.Miss Ruby: 4 to 5-feet tall and wide with rich magenta blooms.Pugster Blue: Compact size, 2-feet tall and 2-3-feet wide with true blue flowers.
