PLAINFIELD, IL — Days after an EF-0 tornado struck Plainfield Sunday night, emergency responders announced a new free class, starting Sept. 7, to make sure people are prepared for any possible future disasters. From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 7, Plainfield's Community Emergency Response Team will be teaching disaster preparedness, fire suppression, first aid treatment, among other skills. The class will be held weekly on Tuesdays through Oct. 19, and it'll take place in the lower level training room at the Plainfield Police Law Enforcement Center, 14300 S. Coil Plus Drive. Those 17 years old and younger have to attend with a parent, according to the flier. An informational night will be held Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. to find out what to expect from the class. "If a disaster occurs, you want to be able to take care of your family, friends and neighbors until first responders are able to assist your area," the flier said. Those wanting to sign up can contact Amy Altenbern at [email protected].
