Description
Join Justice Outside for a walk & talk with Nazshonnii B-A of the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust at the Gill Tract Community Farm. THE EAST BAY IS TRADITIONAL LISJAN OHLONE LAND. The Sogorea Te' Land Trust is an urban Indigenous women-led land trust that facilitates the return of Indigenous land to Indigenous people. We hope you will consider joining us with Land Team Member Nazshonnii B-A for a discussion about the history of Ohlone People, Indigenous Cultural Revitalization, and how non-Native people can contribute to Indigenous sovereignty. The event is from 1:00-2:30pm and will include discussion, tour of the land, & light refreshments. As part of the event, all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) attendees are welcome to take a brief tour of the Gill Tract Community Farm, a collaborative community project between the University of California Berkeley and the local community, focused on food justice and urban farming. This part of the event is reserved specifically for BIPOC-identifying participants, as Saturdays are a BIPOC-only space on that section of the space. Space is limited, so make sure to register soon. We can't wait to see you there! Our Mission Justice Outside advances racial justice and equity in the outdoor and environmental movement. We shift resources to, build power with, and center the voices and leadership of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color because the health of current and future generations demands it. Our Vision We envision a just world where Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Color experience safety, health, and abundant joy through meaningful relationships with one another and the outdoors. Our History At Justice Outside, we’ve long worked to remove the barriers that have historically prevented communities from accessing meaningful experiences in nature and professional opportunities in the outdoor sector. We know that participating in outdoor programming offers those who have been most impacted by racial injustice a powerful source of healing and growth. Justice Outside has reached an exciting time in our organization’s history. Against a backdrop of increased urgency around racial equity and broad shifts in public consciousness in support of dismantling systemic racism, the need and demand for our work is greater than ever. We are poised to keep growing our capacity-building and leadership development work and continue building experiences that will position emerging leaders of color to influence the field at large.
