Dangfly! includes a simple phrase as part of their mantra: “we will not be famous, don’t quit your job.” While this is a unique approach to guiding a bands direction – there is a certain brilliance to it. By jettisoning dreams of fast cars and mansions, or lavish record deals and flocking groupies, the band is free – free to make the music that they love, rather than that which might fit a target demographic. Listening to Dangfly provides you with truth and sincerity, two qualities sorely lacking in much of the country’s music scene. The Royal Velvet is a 3-piece original rock band out of Athens, Georgia made up of members Justin Brogdon on guitar and vocals, Stephen Spivey on bass guitar, and Shawn Johnson on drums. Their sound is a fusion of heavy rock riffs paired with spatial sonic landscapes and a punk rock attitude. Drawing inspiration from legendary rock bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Police; The Royal Velvet has a sound all their own that has drawn comparisons to contemporary bands Queens of the Stoneage, Kings of Leon, and Foo Fighters.
