Description
We're back to our regularly scheduled second Saturday event - and to celebrate turning 4, we have FOUR parks to clean up! FOUR PARKS FOR FOUR YEARS! That's right folks, we're going big this month to celebrate our fourth birthday, and that means we're partnering with Northern Liberties Green to clean up and improve not one, not three, but FOUR parks on Saturday, 7/10! Wow, we're excited just writing about it, and we know you are too. Before the logistics, let's learn a bit about this month's partner, shall we? Let's shall. Northern Liberties Green is a group dedicated to maintaining green spaces in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. When talking about them, feel free to use the term NoLib Green, all the cool VU kids are doing it. And now, onto the logistics. We will be meeting & checking in at the Liberty Lands park, then dispersing from there. The event will both kick off and end at Liberty Lands. When signing up to join us on 7/10, please sign up for which park you'd like to help clean & improve. To learn about what we'll be doing within each park, look below! Liberty Lands: At least 20 volunteersBuilding a retention pond (moving rocks & shoveling)Park cleanup (weeding, picking up litter, sweeping - great for folks who prefer lighter activity and/or cannot perform tasks that require heavy lifting)Orianna Hill (dog park): 20-30 volunteers Spreading wood chips in the dog parkWill involve wheelbarrow use & raking of chipsMadison Memorial & Orkney Park (2 separate park signups!): 10 volunteers per parkWeeding, sweeping, general clean upWhat you'll need: Dress for the weather and in clothing suitable for physical activity.Sunscreen** Reusable water bottle (NoLibs parks have water fountains & fill stations)Work gloves (if you have them)Other Information: NoLib Green will provide all tools & equipment for the activities. Do you remember the times of VU PHL Afterjawns? We do, and we are thrilled to bring them back, birthday party style. We'll be staying in the park at the conclusion of the event to party with you and fundraise ! We'll have a raffle, food, games, and of course, birthday cupcakes! We'll also be looking to provide beer from local breweries, if you'd like to drink something else of choice, please BYO! Donation proceeds from the Afterjawn will be used for: Funding VU PHL volunteer events (i.e. purchasing supplies, providing coffee/snacks, etc.)Donation matches for our fundraising events (which are used to raise money for other organizations)Other operational expenses for VU PHL (i.e. purchasing swag, facility rentals, etc.)Thank you for your support of Volunteering Untapped PHL, we couldn't do our work in Philadelphia without you! Questions? Contact us at [email protected] Cheers, VU PHL The concept is simple - we volunteer with a different nonprofit organization in Philadelphia on the second Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., then spend the afternoon at a local bar for food, drinks, networking and fun with fellow, like-minded individuals. This program was created to give young professionals the opportunity for inspiring and rewarding experiences that will help forge a passion for future volunteering – both with our organization and on their own. Volunteering Untapped was born out of the realization that young professionals in Baltimore, Chicago, and Philadelphia want to give back to their community, but simply don’t know the best way to get involved. We solve that problem. Our mantra? Volunteering…made easy.
