BERGEN COUNTY — The driver 32-year-old Emerson woman who crashed her car into the pool of a private home early morning on Monday was charged with careless driving, the Westwood Police Department said. The driver told police that she lost control of her vehicle around the bend in the road and hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, thus causing the accident. The officer who jumped into the pool to rescue the driver said that the floating car was slowly drifting towards the deep end of the pool as he entered the water. The driver was banging on the window, but the car was not submerged and was slowly taking on water, police said.
