Grayslake Police Chief: As Restrictions Ease, Don't 'Overdo It'

GRAYSLAKE, IL — As the Fourth of July holiday nears, and as more people are getting out as restrictions surrounding COVID have been lifted, Grayslake's top cop is urging residents not to "overdo it." "Please let's respect our neighbors and our community," he wrote in a recent letter to Grayslake residents, which was posted on the village's website. "We at the Grayslake Police Department understand that at this time when we are celebrating the easing of many restrictions in place during a very difficult period. We are also celebrating the independence of our nation and marking the beginning of summer events, holidays and celebrations, but it's easy to overdo it," Chief Phil Perlini wrote. Officers are on the lookout for drivers under the influence of marijuana or alcohol, he said. He urged residents to utilize ride options, such as Uber, or have a sober acquaintance drive them home instead of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated. In addition, Perlini is reminding residents not to shoot off illegal fireworks. He said the police department has a zero tolerance policy for fireworks violations and will issue citations to those violating the law.
