Ohio BMV Extensions End July 1: Renew Licenses, Registration Now

OHIO — During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio leaders created a grace period for expiring licenses and vehicle registrations, allowing residents to delay getting those things renewed. That grace period ends July 1. Gov. Mike DeWine urged Ohioans to renew their licenses and vehicle registrations as soon as possible during a news conference on Thursday. Approximately 100,000 Ohio driver's licenses and 221,000 vehicle registrations expired during the pandemic and have yet to be renewed, he said. "I strongly encourage you not to wait until July 1 to renew. If everyone waits until the deadline, we anticipate very long lines at Ohio BMV locations," DeWine said. Vehicle registrations can be renewed online through the Ohio BMV website. For licenses, Ohioans can get in line at their local BMV online and cut their time waiting in queues. The expiration date for vehicle registrations and licenses was initially extended during the early days of the pandemic and then extended again in November 2020, via House Bill 404.
