Davidson Launches Pedestrian Safety Task Force Following Death

DAVIDSON, NC — Less than one week after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Main Street, Davidson town leaders are forming a new task force to investigate pedestrian safety throughout the town. The new Pedestrian Safety Task Force will be comprised of members of the Board of Commissioners' mobility subcommittee, along with Davidson residents. Davidson residents interested in applying to serve on the task force are asked to complete this form by Wednesday, July 7, the town said. "After the application deadline, applications will be reviewed, and members will be appointed by the board of commissioners," the town said. On June 17, Davidson resident Suzanne Younts, 64, was killed on Main Street near CVS drugstore around 1 p.m. on Main Street near the intersections of Chairman Blake Lane and South Street. Younts died on the scene from her injuries, according to authorities. The Town of Davidson is hosting a community mental health event Thursday night focused on trauma. "A small town like Davidson experiences loss and grief in an impactful way— together as a community. So, we find ourselves today mourning the death of one of our community members during a tragic accident downtown," the town said Monday.
