We invite you to join us for a tour of the new Why Not You Academy, a new charter public high school opening in Des Moines in September 2021 Who: We invite you! You have been instrumental in your support of our journey to launch the Why Not You Academy, we hope you can join us. What: The Grand Opening of the first ever Why Not You Academy! Be the first to see our building before the public! When: Saturday, July 31, 2021, 11:30am-1:00pm Where: Why Not You Academy, 22419 Pacific Highway South, Des Moines, WA 98198 Scott Canfield and Garth Reeves were inspired to bring their 25+ combined years of experience as public school educators to apply for, and ultimately launch, an innovative public charter school in South King County. In September 2017, they started the rigorous process of applying to launch a charter school in Washington state, which they received approval for in June 2019. A few months later, the COVID-19 Pandemic swept across the world, derailing plans to launch in the Fall of 2020. This created an opportunity to make a bigger impact within our community; WNYA was able to provide support and offer resources through our Community Learning Hub, thanks to the partnership with the Why Not You Foundation. Nearly four years after starting this journey, what began as a vision is now reality. The founding class is fully enrolled with a waitlist, and construction on the facility is now complete. We are excited to show you the school and to introduce you to a few of our founding students and staff members. We look forward to opening our doors to our founding students for the first day of school on September 1st!
