A wellness/discussion group for transracially adoptive parents, facilitated by therapist Kerlyne Pacombe, LICSW
This past year has been challenging on many different fronts. The COVID 19 pandemic, along with the brutal murder of George Floyd, has exposed the deeply rooted inequities that have long existed in this country. These events have impacted the way we look at policies and systems, and it has caused many of us to think about our lives: how we grew up; where we work; who we choose to surround ourselves with; and our family make-up. Many of us are also reflecting on what messages were told to us during childhood that shaped both our perception of the world and our perception of ourselves. Parents who have adopted children of color, whose racial identities are different from their own, have had to grapple with all of this in a very unique way.
For transracial adoptive parents, RepHAIRations would like to offer you the opportunity to share, to connect, to feel validated, and to learn. Kerlyne Pacombe, an African American licensed social worker/ therapist and, CEO of RRR Wellness (https://rrr-wellness.com) will be hosting a wellness group specifically for transracial adoptive families. We will discuss everything that has been going on over the past year and the impact that it has had on us and our families. We will talk about our children and how this has affected them. We will also share some helpful tips on how to connect with our kids, and how to keep ourselves psychologically, spiritually, and physically well during this "new normal." We look forward to seeing you there!
*In the interest of keeping everyone safe and comfortable, RepHAIRations is requesting that everyone please wear a mask for the full duration of the group. Group participants will be limited to insure social distancing.*
