Tour 7 home food gardens from tiny to jumbo-size on a roughly 1.5-mile walk around town led by Matfield Green resident Cindy Hoedel. Tour 7 home food gardens from tiny to jumbo-size on a roughly 1.5-mile walk around town led by journalist and Matfield Green resident Cindy Hoedel. You’ll meet local gardeners who will share tips on soil building, polyculture, hardscaping, mulching and fall planting. At the conclusion of the walk around town, we will move our cars to McBride Studio just north of Matfield to tour Bill and Julia McBride’s raised bed garden, aquaponic greenhouse and chicken house. Then a box lunch by Keller Feed & Wine of Cottonwood Falls will be served in Bill’s air-conditioned studio with its sweeping prairie views. Water will be available; please bring a refillable bottle. Feel free to come early or stay late and enjoy 4 miles of native prairie trails on the PrairyArt Path adjacent to McBride Studio. Good walking shoes, comfortable hot-weather clothing, sun protection and bug spray are recommended. Note: Participants are welcome to drive from garden to garden and park on the street at each stop if desired.
