Setting up a Medical Treatment Area This training will teach the following: Because time is critical during an emergency, CERT medical operations personnel will need to select a site and set up a treatment area as soon as injured victims are confirmed. The treatment area is the location where the most advanced medical care possible will be given to victims. The site selected should be: ƒ In a safe area, free of hazards and debris. ƒ Close to, but upwind and uphill from, the hazard zone(s). ƒ Accessible by transportation vehicles (ambulances, trucks, helicopters, etc.). ƒ Expandable.
