Alaska Tales Whale Watching in Juneau Alaska is seeking full time Deckhand/Naturalists for the upcoming summer 2021 season SUMMARY: Perform daily tours. Deckhand/Naturalists are responsible for sharing information about the local wildlife with our guests, providing safety information to the guests and assisting with the safe operation of our vessels. Season: Mid-July to October. Schedule varies, 5-6 days a week. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Conduct safety briefings - Conduct fun and informative talks for guests about the whales and other wildlife of the local area - Interact with guests and answer questions - Safety procedures, knowledge and readiness - Line handling - Upkeep and maintenance of vessels - Maintain a high standard of quality for our tours - Maintain positive relationships with staff - Adhere to company standards SKILLS - Excellent customer service - Detail oriented, safety-oriented work ethic - Must be team oriented and enjoy working with others - Capable of working long hours/flexible hours - Capable of lifting 50 pounds - Line handling - Current First Aid and CPR preferred REQUIREMENTS: - Experience working on boats - Whale watching or other ecotourism experience preferred - Outgoing, positive attitude - Subject to pre-employment and/or random drug testing - Cell phone with text/voice mail - Reliable transportation PAY & BENEFITS: Competitive per trip pay plus good tips. Work in southeast Alaska’s world-class marine environment. Excellent hiking, fishing and other recreational opportunities exist in the Juneau area.
