Description

SOMERVILLE, MA — The installation of bike lanes across the Wellington Bridge is now underway, providing a key link for cyclists along the Mystic River. The lanes have been outlined, and in the coming weeks bike symbols, signs, flex posts and curb ramps will be installed, the Somerville Bicycle Advisory Committee said. The project is funded by a Shared Streets and Spaces grant from MassDOT in collaboration with the city of Medford. Previously, cyclists had to share the bridge's four-foot sidewalk with pedestrians or ride alongside traffic, creating a critical gap in the area's bicycle-friendly infrastructure. The lanes will connect to existing pathways in Assembly Square, Station Landing, MacDonald Park and Blessing of the Bay Park. It's happening! The new bike lanes across the Wellington Bridge are underway. The buffer is striped already, and in the coming weeks they'll install bike symbols, signage, flexposts, plus curb ramps on the Medford side. pic.twitter.com/3Z5x3lLzcq— Somervillebike (@somervillebike) June 22, 2021 Previously: Somerville Installing Bike Lanes On Rt. 28 Bridge
