Join us for this 3 hour Glass Class and make your own Terrarium!
This is an intermediate/ambitious-beginner terrarium building class, no skills necessary if you're up for a challenge! We will learn all of the techniques required to make a small geometric terrarium (approximately 5"x5") that you will get to take home with you. All of the supplies and tools will be provided, including sand and an air plant to decorate your terrarium!
Note: Wear closed-toed shoes and long-sleeved clothing you won’t mind working in. We will be working with hot tools and sharp materials. You will use solder containing lead--which we will teach you how to use safely. As a precaution, children and pregnant folks are not advised to take this class.
Class Outline: 6:00pm-9:00pm Tuesday, July 20th.
We will begin by learning how to use glass cutting tools and techniques for cutting glass. Next, you will begin to cut the glass shapes needed to assemble the terrarium. Once we have learned how to apply the copper foil to the glass pieces, we will heat up our soldering irons and assemble our terrariums! After soldering, you will apply patina to the solder seams. We will wrap up the class by polishing our terrariums and decorating them with sand and an air plant. At this point your new handmade terrarium will be ready to go home with you!
