MOUNT VERNON, NY — The polls have closed and the early vote counts are in. Here are the unofficial results in the 2021 Mount Vernon primary elections. District 13 Westchester County Legislator race: Incumbent Tyrae K. Woodson-Samuels has defeated Mount Vernon City Councilwoman Lisa A. Copeland and George W. Brown in the race for Westchester County Legislator for District 13 in unofficial results. Mount Vernon Comptroller race: Darren M. Morton appears to have defeated City Council President Marcus A. Griffith and Derrickson K. Lawrence in the race for comptroller. Morton was endorsed by Westchester County Executive George Latimer and County Clerk Timothy Idoni. Mount Vernon City Council race: The Mount Vernon City Council race remained virtually deadlocked until early this morning. Cathlin Gleason (Democrat, Mount Vernon Forward), Edward Poteat (Democrat, Mount Vernon Forward) and Danielle Browne (Democrat, Mount Vernon Forward) defeated a pair of incumbents to win the race in unofficial vote totals. Three of the eight candidates were elected in the race for open city council seats. Duarte, Wallace and Carter were endorsed by County Executive Latimer and County Clerk Idoni. Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard had endorsed Cathlin Gleason, Edward Poteat, Danielle Browne. "Thanks to so many of you, we have created a lasting movement for change in this great city," the three winning Mount Vernon City Council candidates said in a joint statement on Wednesday. "It has been a joy to work together, learn from each other, and collaborate on a vision for a better Mount Vernon. After this long election campaign, now is the time for all of us to come together to move Mount Vernon forward." Westchester County Clerk race: Incumbent Timothy Idoni appears to have fended off a challenge by Yonkers City Councilperson Shanae Williams in the race for Westchester County Clerk with a number of absentee ballots still outstanding. Idoni had the backing of Westchester County Executive George Latimer.
