FRANKLIN, WI— Racine County Sheriff's Office announced that a 17-year-old male from the City of Franklin died Monday after he was rescued in critical condition from North Beach in Racine County on Saturday. Yaadwinder Singh of Franklin was rescued about 200 yards from the shores of North Beach by a Racine County Sheriff's boat Saturday around 6:30 p.m., the Racine County Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies found Singh unresponsive. Authorities brought him to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Singh died later on Monday, the Sheriff's office said. He was a student at Oak Creek High School, a statement from the Oak Creek-Franklin School District said. "It is with heavy hearts that our OCFSD community mourns the tragic loss of student Yaadwinder Singh. Our sincerest condolences and sympathy go out to the families and friends affected by this tragedy," the district statement said. In a separate incident, a 10-year-old girl from the City of Racine also died on Saturday after being rescued from a Racine beach, according to the Sheriff's Office. Eisha N. Figuereo Colon died at a hospital after authorities rescued her off of Zoo Beach. The consecutive deaths prompted a meeting on Tuesday to address safety at North Beach, a news release said. "People need to be smart and be safe," Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said. "It appears that recently Lake Michigan has had some extraordinarily strong currents that are pulling swimmers into life-threatening situations." More details are available from news releases on the Racine County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
