LONG BEACH, NY — City Council President John Bendo won his Democratic primary Tuesday.
Bendo, who became council president in January 2020, got 1,072 votes, the most among candidates on the ballot, according to the Nassau County Board of Elections.
Bendo secured 21 percent of the vote, but with the top three candidates advancing to the general election, Tina Posterli and Roy Lester were also victorious.
Posterli, president of the Long Beach school board, got 860 votes. Lester, a one-time school board president, received 833 votes.
Scott Mandel, who was up for reelection, decided not to run for a fourth term.
Democrat Michael Delury ran on the Republican ticket, but they did not hold a primary in Long Beach.
